Are the raised areas actually raised, or just shiny?
Actually raised. This is raised Spot UV, not a flat spot gloss, so the coated elements sit up off the surface of the card in three dimensions. You can see the shine and feel the ridge where it sits, which is what gives these cards their premium, tactile impression.
How do I set up my artwork for the raised effect?
Supply one PDF with three pages. Page 1 is the front of your card, page 2 is the back, and page 3 is your raised layer. On page 3, fill every area you want raised and glossy with 100% K, which is solid black made of cyan 0, magenta 0, yellow 0, black 100, in exactly the same size and position as it appears on your artwork so the two line up. That black is only a marker, it does not print as ink, it tells us where to apply the raised gloss. If you are not sure how to build that page, send your artwork anyway and we will help.
What does the raised gloss work best on?
Bold, solid elements. A logo, large text, or a clean shape raises beautifully and looks sharp. Very fine lines, small text and thin detail do not hold the raised effect as well, so we keep the gloss to the parts of your design that are meant to stand out. Happy to advise on your specific artwork before we run it.
Raised Spot UV or foil, which should I choose?
Both are premium accents on the same velvet card, so it comes down to the look you want. Raised Spot UV gives a clear, raised gloss in your own artwork colours underneath, a subtle, tactile shine. Foil gives a flat metallic finish in silver, gold, colour or holographic. Choose raised for an understated, three-dimensional feel, or look at our foil business cards if you want a bright metallic hit.
Can I collect my cards from your South Perth shop?
Yes. We manage and proof every job from our South Perth shop, so you are welcome to collect from there once your order is ready, or we can deliver.
What stock are these printed on?
450gsm, velvet laminated both sides. It is a thick, substantial card with a soft-touch matte surface, which is the base the raised gloss is applied over.
How long do raised Spot UV cards take?
Estimated production time: 5-7 business days. The clock starts once you have approved your final artwork, not when you place the order. Raised Spot UV is a specialty finish, which is why it runs a little longer than a standard card.
What corner options can I choose?
Square corners, or rounded (5mm) corners for a softer, more modern look. Both come on the same 89 x 54mm card.
Can I have different artwork on the front and back?
Yes. Every card is printed full colour on both sides, so the front and back can be completely different. Your raised gloss is handled separately, on the third page of your PDF, and can mark elements on the front, the back, or both.
What file do you need, and can you design it for me?
A print-ready PDF in CMYK with the three pages described above, front, back, and your 100% K raised layer, is ideal. Not set up for print, or not sure how to build the raised layer? Send whatever you have and our team will sort it, or our Design Studio can create the whole artwork, raised layer included. Either way, a real person checks it before we print.
